THE MISSING LINK ONE
Redefining the DI Experience for the Digital Age
The LINK ONE is the missing link for almost any direct in situation that you would normally use a DI box, while adding studio preamp analog weight and warmth to anything plugged in direct to a mixing board, recording interface or power amp via balanced xlr cable! Pedal board friendly and powered of a pedal power DC power jack (See specs below).
Works amazing with:
~ Acoustic Instruments of All Types
~ Amp Sims/ Profiler Electric Set Ups
~ Bass
~ Keyboards and Synths
~ Electronics Drums & Samples

The LINK ONE
Direct Instrument Preamp
The cornerstone of the Missing Link series is the LINK ONE, a single channel Direct Instrument Preamp box that imparts glorious analog tone and weight onto every instrument you plug in while converting high impedance unbalanced signals to a low impedance balanced signal.
We think a high quality device should look as good as it sounds so we gave the LINK ONE a unique top label plate laser cut and hand-finished in our Oregon shop, made of solid Cherry wood.
Main Features:
MUTE SWITCH:
Not sure why this isn't standard on every DI but a MUTE switch is standard on every MISSING LINK unit. A simple switch that mutes the input, without any electronics pop, allows the user to unplug without the annoying pop or having to get the sound tech's attention to mute the channel. Now you can unplug to save your active pickup batteries, or to change out instruments, or if you need to troubleshoot the pedal board on the fly. No problem! The indicator jewel lights up red when signal is muted as a convient visual.
GAIN SWITCH:
This switch sets the gain level of the discrete opamp stage from 0dB, ie unity gain buffer, to +6dB or +12dB. We recommend starting on 0dB, but using the Gain control is perfect for adding studio grade gain to quiet pickups or to juice the transformer for a bit more mojo, just like a studio mic preamp!
PHASE FLIP:
A preamp staple for problem solving. Invert the phase of the signal by 180 degrees. Nice.
PAD:
Reduce the level internally with a three way mini toggle. For unity gain, use the 0dB setting. For extra hot signals or to reduce transformer color, reduce the signal by 9dB or 18dB.
GROUND LIFT:
Solve pesky ground loop hums with a simple flick of the switch.

LINK ONE Models and Mods
Let's explore the varients to find out which one is right for your application:
Transformer Options: Jensen & Cinemag
These two transformer options are similar, and while they are both derived from the same original design, the Jensen and Cinemag each have their own flavor. The main difference between the two is that the Jensen sounds a bit tighter in the low end with a little less bloom below 200Hz, making for a slightly cleaner sound, which Jensen is known for. The Cinemag sounds, and feels, more robust with a bit more sub extention and low mid warmth. Last year Jensen moved opperations to Canada and their prices are now higher, thus we they are priced different then USA based Cinemag. Base price units come with the Cinemag and the Jensen can be installed for an additional $40
LINK ONE Standard
The standard LINK ONE is designed with pedal boards in mind and runs off standard 9-18v DC pedal power. A high quality, isolated power supply of 100mA or greater is required for low noise opperation. The Standard and Studio models both have a fully buffered "thru" output we call the INST OUT and will not tone suck, unlike nearly every passive device on the market.
LINK ONE Studio
We just have to take things to n'th degree here at Pettyjohn. The Studio version is a one to one exact port of the direct in circuit from the Ethereal Analog DejaVu DI circuit, down to the same massive Wima caps, making this LINK version the most open and natural sounding direct box possible while still imparting analog color and weight we love from a good transformer. Most notably a "big box" 6 pin discrete opamp, and we upgrade the 990 enh to our favorite big box Discrete Opamp in this circuit, the SIL 995. This opamp has a slightly more open top end and more focus then the standard 990, making it sound even more 3D and pure. These small but expensive parts improvements take the quality to the highest possible theoretical level with no stone left un-turned.
This version also allows for the user to opamp swap any of the studio discrete opamps on the market or in their collection for different flavors, another first in the DI world. This is accomplished by utilizing our proprietary beefy +/-18v internal dual rail power supply, which supplys a full 36v of power to the discrete opamp. This requires 9-15v isolated, high quality DC power supply with 100mA minimum and a center tip negative barrel (pedal standard).
