KYBR Drive
Much like the Jedi Lightsaber deriving power from Kyber Crystals, the KYBR Drive is a special overdrive that derives its sound from Light Emitting Diodes, or LED for short. They are much different from standard silicon or even germanium diodes, as LED require 2-3x the voltage to turn them on and activate overdrive in a clipping circuit. This higher forward voltage results in much higher headroom, which equates to better lowend and great high-voltage style amp feel that many players love.
 
LORE
We have used many different LED options in our pedals over the years and each color has its own unique forward voltage, which translates to a slightly different flavor when used in a clippin circuit. We have used Blue and Yellow in the CHIME circuit and RED and ORANGE in the IRON circuit, along with CLEAR in a recent version of the GOLD, but we have talked about someday using a 8 way rotary switch to load every color of LED in a pedal so all of the "colors" could be fully apprecaited.
 
DUAL LIGHT POWERED CLIPPING ENGINES
The KYBR gives not one, but TWO different eight-way rotary switches to give the user a huge range of light driven overdrive tones on tap. We decided to merge two of our most popular pedals, the IRON (feedback clipping) and CHIME (shunt style clipping) overdrive stages into the same circuit for max overdrive options.
 
IRON SIDE
The left rotary switch changes between seven pairs of LEDs with the last selection being a bypass, ie no clipping within a feedback loop of an opamp. Technically this is a symertrical soft clipping and lifted directly from our IRON pedal.
 
CHIME SIDE
The right rotary switch selects between 7 different colors of LEDS, arranges in symentrical hard clipping, with the 8th position being the bypass. This drive circuit is lifted directly from the CHIME.
 
USE THE FORCE
The KYBR puts you in the driver seat to define your individual tone. By using the two rotary switches you can mix and match our two most popular drive sections, now loaded with every color of LED. By using the bypass section you can bypass either section to effectively have only and IRON or only a CHIME. Use the force wisely.
 
VISUALIZE YOUR OVERDRIVE
One of the most unique things about using LED clipping driven by high voltage powered circuits is the LEDs will actually light up when they clip. We have positioned the LEDs under the corresponding jewel lights anfd they fuction as clipping indicators as they will light up, brighter the harder they are clipping. Both cool and uniquely useful in seeing how hard you are driving the KYBR.
 
THREE BAND HYBRID EQ
Our most powerful EQ, lifted from the LIFT V3, is capable of emense tone shaping options. The three controls in the middle offer LOWS, MIDS and HIGHS. The force is strong with this one!
 
LOWS
The LOWS are pre-overdrive 6dB/octive passive High Pass Filter that cuts lows before the gain stages, therefor it interacts with how the gain stages overdrive. The sweep goes from subsonic 20Hz up to 1kHz.
 
INDUCTOR MIDS
Our favorite mids circuit ever is the inductor based mid bell centered around 800Hz. This EQ circuit is flat at noon, cuts passively as you turn to the left and boosts semi-actively as you turn to the right. Highly musical and used in many of our circuits including the FILTER, MAGIQ, MASH, GOLD and LIFT V3 and PettyDrive3.
 
ACTIVE HIGHS
The High band on the KYBR combines the cut power of the IRON and the sweeting boost ability of the CHIME, its an active high shelf.
 
THE JEDI MASTER MOD
This mod adds a genuine Fasel inductor to the MID band and a Emerson Custom Bumblebee cap to the HIGHS circuit.
 
NEW GORVA S90 ENCLOSURE
Our first pedal using the slightly bigger Gorva S90 pedal which gives us more room for the control set we wanted to offer. Be looking for more PJE pedals in this size to come! Dimentions are: 117.2 x 90 x 39mm OR 4.614" x 3.543" x 1.535"
 
POWER:
9-18v, 100mA isolated, high quality pedal power. We recomment 12-18v for best performance!
 
Note from the Jedi Masters at PJE: Thanks to the forces that be, no joke, our prototype is 100% done for the release today, as our PCBs haven’t made it through the hoopla yet. They should be here later this first week of May. Once they are in, we will post final pictures, demo video and make audio samples ASAP. We understand it’s an early preorder, but this one HAD to go out on May the Fourth🤷‍♂️😂 ! Knobs, labels, and functions are subject to change if we find something can be improved during early production. This is a preorder, but since it is a combo of our two most popular drives it’s prettt easy to go listen to a demo of the IRON or CHIME and hear a general idea of the tones you can get, with more tone shaping and nuanced differences between all the LEDs.
