GOLDEN HISTORY 
 
The GOLD overdrive started out as the third offering of our trifecta of "amp in a box" style overdrives offered in the original Foundry series nearly a decade ago. During the MKII era we experimented with adding Klon style clipping, the "other" golden overdrive, in several fun limited runs came of those mods, including the Klonish Mod, the MYTH in 2023 and eventually the RARE Core LTD pedal. We lost our custom metal enclosure supplier in mid 2023 thus hamstringing our release of the GOLD V3 to one small run of just 30 units. Well, we got back on the horse and now we are pleased to revive the Golden tones with a fully re-designed GOLD3 in the new Cubed Series.
 
REFINED GOLD 
Re-designed from the ground up, the new slightly bigger enclosure of the CUBED Series allows us to implement features we never could fit in the smaller Foundry enclosures! Notable features include a greatly increased gain range, INDUCTOR Mid bell with genuine Fasel Yellow inductor, new 3 different LED clipping options, and a IRON Core Transformer! Both the MYTH (RARE) clipping inspired by the Klon and the original GOLD germanium clipping for classic recorded Marshall tones that range from Low gain Plexi amps through cranked JCM 800/900 half stack tones! 
 
MAGNETIC MOJO 
Over and over, the feedback is the circuits with magnetics offer something special, and we couldn't agree more! So we are excited to be offering both Inductor Mids and IRON core transformer saturation in the GOLD3, something unique among the pedal world that sets the GOLD3 apart in a flooded market of drive pedals! 
 
IRON CORE TRANSFORMER
Every GOLD3 will ship stock with a USA made IRON Core Transformer installed! Furthermore, this transformer can be switched on and off via the push switch on the rear of the box so you can decided which tone you like best! Engaging the transfromer immediately changes the game, on first impression, there is a bit of rolling off a bit of topend and adding a bit of lows, however it's more then a classic analog warm EQ curve! The IRON core transformer is non-linear and saturates lightly, rounding over spikey pick attach and adding amp like sag that only magnetics can offer. It's like glue smoothing out the edges, while adding weight and power with the feel of a power amp pushed to the edge of breakup. This is particularly valuable when using direct amp solutions as it adds back both the feel and tone of playing through a real amp, the magnetic saturation thats the hardest to emulate digitally now can be had in analog.
 
INDUCTOR MIDS
It's probably obvious by now, we love our Inductor Mids EQ circuit. Again the magnetics involved result in a richer mid range with character and feel that is unique to inductor based circuits with non-linear magnetics. As we implement more of these, we are working to design each unit with a unique set of frequencies and voicing for that specific pedal. In the GOLD we use the Yellow Fasel, made in Italy for a clean, focused mid range that can be aggressive if pushed, nearly getting into wah like vocal tones at the extremes, and perfect for light mid range cuts for more mid scooped higher gain tones. 
 
MORE & LESS GAIN
We extended the gain range, with over 2x the gain on top end to get into fully cranked Marshall tones. Perfect for anything needing alot of dirt, from grunge to punk , from modern arena rock to vintage violin-like Gilmore-ish solo tones, the GOLD3 can do it all! On the lower end, the GOLD3 can go all the way down to unity, so you can run it as a preamp with tone shaping. The refined active volume control is allows the GOLD3 to compensate for all this gain range and has been voiced to allow for up to 6dB of boost at the lowest gain and to reach far below unit even at the highest gain ranges. Note this control does not go to black out quiet by design, at lowest setting there is a small about of signal still present. 
 
EXPANDED CLIPPING OPTIONS
There are two mini toggles that control the clipping under the hood on the GOLD3. The right mini toggle selects GOLD, MYTH and LED in the middle.
GOLD: this clipper is our original Marshall style, germanium clipping circuit for those Plexi and JCM tones! 
MYTH: Our famous moddified Klon style clipping circuit, with authentic, hand matched D9E diodes, just like the OG Klon but instead of two of them, we use four of them for twice the headroom and better low end extension. In our humble opinion, this is THE KLON KILLER, and we have had many reports of people selling their klones and original klons for this circuit! 
LED: Bypasses the germainum clippers and activates the other Clipping circuit utilizing LEDs.
NOTE this will result in a high volume boost and you will have to back down the level substantially. 
LED CLIPPING OPTIONS: UV, BLUE and WHITE, subtally different tones from three different colors of LED's that have different forward voltages, thus a different EQ and saturation curve. Great for high headroom crunch and modern tones, IF you can handle the extra volume! ;-)
 
FULL RANGE OVERDRIVE
 
The GOLD3 is designed to be a full range pedal, which means all tones pass 20Hz to 20kHz. We did this to let the user have the most ability to shape the tone to fit their needs. The LOWS and HIGHS controls are our classic sweepable Low Cut and High Cut circuits that sweep from the outer edges of human hearing into 1kHz with a 6dB/octive roll off. 
 
FOUNDRY Series - Dual Rail Power Supply. THe CUBED series is powered by one of our biggest innovations ever: ourproprietary dual rail charge pump. This little gem is a major upgrade from our CORE Series charge pump and is a sophisticated dual rail dc to dc converting internal power supply. Our charge pump provides an incredible +/-18v of internal power, for a total of 36v, and all from a standard regulated 9v power adapter (200mA). Say what!?
 
When you increase voltage you increase the headroom which then affects the tone and feel of a pedal. Dual rail power supplies are usually found only in classic studio gear, until now. The CUBED Series charge pump delivers up to a massive four times the headroom of most guitar pedals. This high headroom imparts an openness and 3D quality that is unique to Pettyjohn CUBED Series pedals. 36v is the maximum spec for most opamps empowering the high-qualify opamps in CUBED Series pedals to operate at their maximum potential.
